Join us in Roatan,
Honduras for a week of exceptional diving and relaxation. AKR’s Shuttle
van will meet us at the airport, help us through customs and take us to
the
resort. We will be greeted with a tropical island drink and an
orientation, and
then be shown to our cabanas. The cabanas are great – pretty basic but
very
clean and have everything you need. The trip price includes the cabanas
without
air condition – but you may upgrade for $200 pp to an air-conditioned
one.
Personally, We have never stayed in an air-conditioned cabana, and have
never
missed it. We think part of the experience is listening to the waves
all night
and birds in the morning. With the trade winds blowing, ceiling fans in
the
rooms and slatted windows from floor to ceiling on three walls –You may
even
need a blanket.
The
package includes up to 4 boat dives a day (with the 4th
being the
night dives on 2 nights) or 2 snorkel boat trips for the non-divers.
What we
especially like about how the dives are set-up is that the boat returns
to the
dock after each dive so…if you miss the 8:00 dive, you can get on the
10:00
dive – or the 2:00 dive. It is only a 10-minute run time to most sites
– so
seasickness is never a problem here!

You may choose to dive to your
hearts content…or find
other activities to do….or, sit by the pool and drink Monkey La La’s!
Every
cabana has a hammock, so be sure to bring a good book! Other activities
you may
want to try are; horseback riding (bring tennis shoes and jeans for
this), or
visit the museum, canoe, kayak, hike or watch the dolphin show. All of
this is
included in the package. For an additional cost, you may choose to dive
or
snorkel with the dolphin, zip thru the jungle on a high wire, dive with
Big
Sharks – and maybe even buy a video
or two!
One
of the best gift shops on the island is at Anthony’s Key Resort (AKR)
and if
you need any items (aspirin, suntan lotion, etc.) you may buy it at the
snack
shop. They also sell candy bars, soft drinks and bottled water. You may
want to
take an afternoon, get a taxi and check out the West End. There
are very
unique shops and restaurants along a dirt road along the west end of
Roatan.
The meals are ample and delicious. No one
leaves
hungry! Meals always include a starter and desert – and you have your
choice
between seafood, beef or chicken. If you are a vegetarian, it’s no
problem
here. If however, you have other special dietary needs, let us know so
we can
let the kitchen know in advance and they will accommodate you.
If you would like to earn a certification
card while
you’re there, it’s easy! You will already be doing the dives that
credit
towards your Advanced Open Water anyway, so with little extra effort,
you can
get an additional cert! If you are interested in safer dives and want
more
bottom time, you may want to learn about Nitrox diving. You can get
your book
and watch the video prior to the trip, we’ll review important points
& dive
Nitrox in Roatan! Nitrox is available for the week of diving – for
about $85.
If any other Specialties interest you, like Deep Diving, Photography,
DAN O2,
etc, just let us know and we’ll set it up! Advanced Open Water – reg.
$250, on
the trip $210. Nitrox – reg.$100, on the trip $50.
<>The diving is very good –
mostly wall diving. The
advantage of wall diving is that you can choose the depth you are most
comfortable at. A divemaster dives on all sites, so if you want a
little extra
attention, it’s available. You’ll swim with numerous large fish, like
dog
snapper, mutton snapper and black grouper. Bring your camera for the
big, green
eels. Lobster and crabs are all over the place – but don’t touch! This
is a
marine park, that’s why there is so much marine life. To ensure divers
follow
the no touch rule, you will not wear gloves – except for the wreck
dive.
Unlimited beach diving is also available.
